DESCRIPTION:The 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Addis Ababa\, convened under the 2026 AU Theme: “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.” The Assembly will launch the AU Theme on Water and Sanitation\, consider and adopt key decisions to operationalise the Africa Water Vision 2063 and Policy\, and endorse mechanisms to accelerate progress on SDG 6. \nExpected Outcome \n· Launch of the AU Theme on Water and Sanitation and adoption of proposed decisions related to water and sanitation and.\n· AUDA-NEPAD and the World Bank will launch the regional “Accelerating Access to WASH” Multiphase Programmatic Approach (WASH MPA) project\, focusing on climate-resilient water supply\, sanitation and hygiene in Eastern and Southern Africa. Opportunity to present the AIP-PIDA Water Investment Scorecard as a political accountability tool for water investments under Agenda 2063.
