Honourable Jumaa Hamidu Aweso is a Member of Parliament for Pangani Constituency in Tanga Region, North East of Tanzania. Honourable Aweso is the Minister for Water in the United Republic of Tanzania since December 2020. Before raising to the top office of the Water Sector, he served as Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Water from October 2017 to October 2020 following his election as Member of Parliament from October 2015. In October 2020, he was re-elected Member of Parliament for the aforementioned Pangani Constituency.

Honourable Aweso holds a Diploma in Teaching from Morogoro Teachers’ Training College where he attended between 2007-2009. To water his learning quest, Honourable Aweso was admitted to University of Dar es Salaam from 2010-2013 where he successfully graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry Degree, He further, joined the Open University of Tanzania between 2018-2020 where he graduated with Masters in Governance and Leadership (MAGL).

Leading a heart-touching, life-giving and political-sensitive Water Sector, Mr. Aweso works on transforming the sector through increasing water services to the Tanzania citizens. The portfolio puts him at the centre of building enabling environment to other water related sectors such as irrigation and energy. He is a renowned hardworking and tireless Minister.

Being a Minister for Water, Honourable Aweso serves in different capacities in the region. He served as Member of Executive Council of African Ministers’ Council on Water from 2020-2022; Co-Chair of Council of Ministers of the Joint Songwe River Basin Commission, and Member of Council of Ministers of Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program Coordination Unit. From August 2022, Honourable Aweso is the Chair of Council of Ministers of Nile Basin Initiative.
